Pierre Merkl III
aka Mr. Lucky
Pierre Merkl aka Mr. Lucky (1952, New York City) is a painter celebrated for creating tongue-in-cheek tableaus of imagined people and questionable activities, inspired by the City’s dark underside—and organized crime in particular. The artist delivers a unique painterly film noir style, accomplished with the technical finesse and majesty of the old masters; infused with the psychological edginess and intrigue of the German Expressionists. He has been active in New York City (currently), San Francisco, and New England since the 1970s.
